Tips on Choosing Survival Equipment

You may wish to buy survival equipment when you are going camping or simply to gift someone. There are many types of survival equipment or gear you can buy. Before setting off to shop, you should know the type of equipment you wish to buy. This way, you will not be overwhelmed with the variety of choices available in the market. Here are the top three survival gears that everyone should have.

Choose a sleeping bag

One of the basic Uber Prepared survival equipment you should have is the sleeping bag. Whenever you are going out of town, it is advisable to pack the sleeping bag. You can use a sleeping bag to shelter from the sun and sleep into during the night.

Look for a sleeping bag made of materials that provide better insulation than the normal fabric. The bags we are referring to are known as down bags. The bags are great insulators when dry but when they become wet, the insulation properties get lost. If you have not carried a tent, you can use a bivouac bag of breathable materials to keep dry.

ii) Get a tough backpack

Look for a backpack that is tough and water proof. The UberPrepared bag should have adjustable webbing secured to the frame and should be comfortable to distribute some of the weight on your hips. You can also go for backpacks with frames, although they are usually heavier than those without frames. The backpacks with frames are however great if you have a lot of load to carry.

Check that the bag you are buying will not completely be on your back and make you sweat a lot. The bag should also have a number of zipped pockets where you can pack smaller items that are needed on a regular basis.

iii) Get a reliable radio

You should buy a high quality remote radio if you are going camping or for an expedition in a remote area. The radio will help you communicate with other members of your team and can be crucial when you need help when stranded somewhere. There should be a signal plan that all members of the team should follow during the expedition. For instance, it is good practice to have all members of the team contact base at least twice day to confirm that they are safe. You should know the radio frequencies that will work in the areas you will be visiting. Moreover, two or more members should be able to operate the radio. Finally, there should be an emergency plan in case one of the team members fails to report to base as agreed.

When you want to buy survival gear, start with the three suggestions above.
